As an avid reader of historical fiction and someone who wishes she were living in a different time period, namely the 18th or 19th century, I was completely disappointed in the lack of historical roleplays available out there. Then, one day in April, I happened across an add for this game. I took my chances and applied, worried that it would be a total disaster with half-hearted players and snobby historical know-it-alls. I am SO glad that I was wrong. Far from remaining a tiny, struggling, unmarketable game, Toujours has exploded into a 100+ character saga with twists and turns that sometimes make my head spin, but in a good way. I only wish that I had the time and energy to read every single thread and log thoroughly to keep up with all of the amazing characters. What started for me as a potential fulfillment of a dream has become a network of fantastic rp friends with whom I have had some of the best times of my roleplaying career. You have welcomed my beloved Katherine with open arms and I cannot wait to see what you all have in store in the weeks and months to come! Vive la révolution! I would be remiss to not give some individual shout-outs (with the journals I most often rp with you in), but to all of you who I have not yet had the fortune of playing with, I hope to in the future! Carlos Santana I was 12 years old when my best friend in the whole world died. Together we were all we needed. We we're going to grow up and move to Paris and be superstars, married to different backstreet boys ( which one we would each marry changed from week to week). Her name was Carly, and when Carly and I got together it was a constant chain of laughter. She was such a happy girl. To this day I will always say that no one loved life more than Carly. For her no moment was to be an unhappy one. No amount of time was to ever be wasted on feeling sad or out of place. I was 12 years old when I realized what it meant to cry till you got sick. I was 12 years old when I realized she was never coming back, and I was 12 years old when I thought I was the only person in this world to ever feel this utterly awful. It was on that day that the smile, that was always permanently strung across my lips disappeared for what I thought would be for forever. I remember the day of her funeral like it was only ten minutes ago, because well it was the longest day of my life. It was a typical rainy funeral day, black coats and umbrellas. To me it was the saddest day that southern Los Angeles would ever see. The car ride was long and miserable, but I had expected the whole day to carry on this way. Normally on rainy days Carly and I would put on bathing suits and run around in the street no matter the temperature. The goal was to get sick and stay home from school together, which never worked out. My tears were matching the flow of rain on the passenger window and every time the sky would explode with thunder it felt as if my chest would explode along with it. The silence between my mother and I was inevitable, because there was only so much more explaining and comforting a mother could do for her twelve year old daughter who was still inconsolable. With Carly and I, there was never a moment of silence, which explains why I still to this days always hate those awkward silences or any silences at all. Just when I thought about screaming, if only to break the quiet, I remembered that there had to be a radio station somewhere in the air space that was playing something that could easily match the screaming that I myself wanted to let out - or at least something close to it. Girls Just Wannna Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper: This was the song that came on. I considered changing it to something a little more slow and well depressing, only to accommodate to the mood and circumstances of the day. But it was almost like she was there, turning up the volume. My fun friend Carly hated all those slow sappy songs, much like myself. She would have been the one to put this song on on purpose from seeing the miserable look on my face. We would have laughed and danced and escaped the reality of the moment if only for a few minutes. The song put a smile on my face, a big smile. I almost felt terrible when I let out a small giggle only thinking of Carly and I dancing around to this song in our old dance costumes. It was a pick up song. It was the kind of song anyone would listen to if they were feeling down. It was the definition of happy and the definition of a smile. Then I realized that this is why there is music. This was proof to me that at some point Cyndi Lauper was thinking of me when she recorded this song, even though they had no idea I existed. She wrote this song - of coarse she had a specific point - but to make people happy and feel happy! This was proof that I was running through Cyndi Laupers mind when she wrote it. She had to, at one point, been thinking of a sad little 12 year old who needed something, even something small, to take away the pain of life and reunite her with how fun life is, and to live that fun life while you have it. Since that day, music has been my escape. Music has defined my life. " It's about the feeling that you get when other human beings pick up basic instruments and for three to four minutes can make sense of your world. And all things scary or frightening suddenly don't seem intimidating at all because they know that the person who wrote those lyrics once, at one point in their life, felt the same way that they are feeling right now. That is what music does. " Love Is A Battlefield - Pat Benetar : In three to four minutes you can define even your love life. Romance will for once in your life make sense to you because of a single artist. As love is one of the most confusing aspects of humanity, a person can capture a view on it in a single song. Music gives everything a different story and definition. Love included. The Middle - Jimmy Eat World : It rings so true. For three to four minutes one single person or persons can make perfect sense of your world. They can define you in three to four minutes. All the questions you had about your life in a particular moment can be figured out all in three to four minutes. In those seconds you can easily be given hope, and romance, and joy, and sometimes simply a smile on a rainy funeral day. Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd One of the greatest songs of all time. If I believe strongly in anything it is that music will change the world one day. It will one day change the attitudes of everyone. I've never played with such a friendly and welcoming bunch since the days when RPGs were played on messageboards and you only had one frickin' icon for every post you made. I'm glad and thankful for each and every one of you. You have made this community what it is: a place where writing and story matters, and not the face attached to the character. I'm so happy for all of the mature players we've received. I'm happy how every welcoming post is filled with hellos from tons of people in game, and how people talk plot in their introduction posts, and make such amazing storylines with each other. I love how people know they can BE down-to-earth and goof off, and I love how no one treats us mods like we're MODS but like we're players just like you. I love how everyone tries to help everyone out. I love how we're friends just as much as RPers, and that we're a community instead of just a mish-mash of disconnected people. The reason why you've made this game rock so much? Because of all that. Because friendliness and connections are what make RP last instead of fizzle away. Because we are eight months going strong, and we ain't going away! I don't care if our character number drops to ten total. We'll still be here. Even though most of their story is happening in their writers' heads these days, I hope that when we no longer have real (productive?) lives, we can go back to pretending to be these guys more often because I think they make me funnier and quicker and smarter. [14 Aug 2008|11:39am] youareamazing [acker] I'm suddenly in a praising mood, and there's one community out there that has kept me going, even when I want to give up on roleplay all together. With such an amazing mixture of people, characters and writing styles, I never know what I'm going to find on the friends' page when I log in. Of course, the community I am referring to is fansites (or webhost, as it is better known). The game is relatively new, in some ways, but the fact that it has survived for three months (with some characters that are over three years old, one of them being mine) speaks for itself. Everything about it is so relaxed; the mods are chill about most things and very lenient with updating and hiatuses and those are things you seldom find these days - or in my community experiences, at least. I've made so many friends through this game, and I can't picture myself ever not being a part of it. And just a few shout outs to some of my characters' favorites (I could get lengthy, but I'm pretty sure everyone knows how much I love them): thekennedy, colbyv, laceykuhn, indi, endr, robertwilson, benmercer, bolster, dstroud, kingsler & klemmer. Note that I only listed one of the characters each plays, but odds are that I adore all of theirs. Even though I just listed a few people, everyone in the community is beyond amazing. Such a variety of personalities and careers mixes together in an amazing way to provide a very friendly environment (at least for me). Please, if you disagree, don't bash; just scroll on past. [14 Aug 2008|12:58pm] youareamazing [sivartrichter] convene matagood I've been working on this for a few days now so I could have the right words to tell you how amazing Matt is, I've always played Travis in PSL's because I just never seemed to get into him when I was in a community but I decided to take a chance and from when I first asked for a home, you were the one to get a hold of me. I knew from our first conversation I'd made the right decision and finally found a FFTL member I was able to click with. One thing I never expected was for Matt and Travis to fall for each other because I'd never played him against a guy before but, in my opinion this is quicky turning into the best storyline I've ever had. They talk all day and all night then when we scene it lasts half of the day which I've never been able to do before, I normally lose interest but never with Matt. I never sleep anymore which you know haha but it's just cause I enjoy talking to you so much. You play Matt so well, from cute, funny and sweet to not letting anyone walk over him, he's strong, intelligent and very dynamic. I know they've had their rough days but nothing they haven't been able to work out within a few hours at the most; I've never been so involved with a line before in my life, when they laugh, I laugh. When they cry, I cry haha. Now to quit this rambling I better finish up by saying, you are amazing and I hope we continue this line for a long, long time, because everyday never ceases to amaze me. All I know is that through this community, I have met some of the greatest and most mature writers that I have come across in my two or so years of roleplay history. There honestly isn't a dull night, and for the first time in quite a bit, I'm only in one community, and completely entertained. Though you're all amazing, there's a few people in paticular that my girls have interacted with/or I have noticed, so I'll go into specifics under the cut. As a general statement though, convene, you are amazing! ( you are all so perfect. ) Like I mentioned, I'm tired, so I probably missed people. Witnessing him and Dave messing around together was always such a treat because you guys were awesome. I know it's tough losing a voice, and I'm secretly hoping you'll find him again, and these two can find their way back to each other, because you are so wonderful. And if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have discovered Taylor's solo career either. Sigh sigh sigh. I just love love love you. Thank you for the last five months. [13 Aug 2008|09:23am] youareamazing [hathor] rogerebert, youareamazing. on slow and sad nights, lambert, allieg, and elliotriggs made me laugh so freaking hard. jvm gave my kid the perfect girl to chase after (and believe me, i'd been looking for a long time for him). jayda, aubreylaine, and ldavis have been some of the cutest girls i've ever seen made and i'm glad they get along well with my kid/s. back when i stayed up way late, henry was always there to talk to and make our characters lolz together. gennessa is a babe just because she is. and dpalmer and hollingsworth. the whole community made it enjoyable, but you two made rp worth it. thanks for being in marc's band. 8 comments|post comment
